God is in Control

Dennis JerniganThis song was received this morning (January 29, 2004) as I interceded for my friends: Jack and Jerry Taylor (Jerry is battling cancer and recently suffered a stroke...Jack and Jerry are stranded together in the South Seas in a foreign hospital); Kathy Law, my manager and friend, who is in the hospital battling a very severe infection; for Charyl P. who is battling breast cancer; for a Don W, whose brother is battling cancer; for my friend who is battling depression and lonliness; for my own soul; for my own family; for my wife...God truly is in control. I believe this now more than ever...

God is in Control
Words & Music: Dennis Jernigan
January 29, 2004

Verse One

God is in control
When we can’t see where to go
When the winds begin to blow
He is still in control
God is in control
Even when we do not know
In our joy or our sorrow
God is still in control

Chorus

God is in control
And He will not let us go
When the stormy winds would blow
He is a Rock and He will hold
God is in control
When it does not seem so
This is our faith
This is our hope
Our God is in control

Verse Two

God is in control
When we’re hurting or not whole
In the darkness of our soul
God is in still in control
God is in control
In the storm and thunder roll
Seek His face
And you will know
God is still in control

Repeat Chorus

A Mystery of Majesty

Tender, like a melody,
Is the way I've come to know
You love to sing your love to me.
Refreshing like a springtime breeze,
Like the wind, blow through me,
Like the way the wind blows through a tree.
You in me, a mystery of majesty.

Weapons of Warfare

When Jesus first set me free, the Enemy would often tempt me to slip back into my old way of thinking, my old sin patterns. Because Satan had dealt with me so much in the past, he knew which buttons to push. His efforts would wear me down, and I would feel weak and defeated. But I began to learn that God has provided me with weapons of warfare. I am not left alone to fight the forces of evil; God has equipped me for battle.

Satan used to sneak up behind me and say, “Go ahead. Watch that show or listen to that music or think that perverted thought.” But God provided me with the weaponry of a new nature, and I learned to respond, “To watch that show or listen to that music or think that thought is contrary to my new nature. That is not who I am!” The process of learning about my new nature begins with learning about the nature of God, for it is his image that we reflect. When we learn who God is, we discover life-changing truths about ourselves.

A second weapon God has provided us with is relationship with Jesus. I love his written Word, but I do not have a relationship with a book! I have a relationship with the living Word of God—Jesus Christ! (see Rev. 19:13). We are not alone! He goes through the temptations and the trials and the tragedies with us!
