Lee Fai, a street sleeper transformedLee Fai was very much put out by the strangers who began to invade his patch under the Kowloon City flyover every week. He did not mind the food we gave out.. If we wanted to give away rice and meat, who was he to refuse, especially since he had not eaten such clean, fresh rice in a long while, or such tender meat. But he could not see much when it came down to it. His eyes were usually blurred by drink, and his voice sounded like it came from someone else when he shouted it us. His annoyance was rekindled: we had no business being there. Why did we not leave them all in peace? His friends under the flyover were not all of the same opinion. One of the other street sleepers was especially pleased, he had such pain in his hands from arthritis and we said Jesus could heal them. He had never known the peace he felt when he prayed himself, and he watched with amazement and gratitude as the selling went down in his hands over the succeeding weeks. When he saw this, Lee Fai only jeered all the more.

I awoke with these words in my mind."The Heavenly Man is the intensely dramatic story of how God took a young, half-starved boy from a poor village in Henan Province and used him mightily to preach the gospel despite horrific opposition. Brother Yun is one of China's house church leaders, a man who despite his relative youth has suffered prolonged torture and imprisionment for his faith. Instead of focusing on the many miracles or experiences of suffering, however, Yun prefers to emphasize the character and beauty of Jesus. Continue reading
